Going through all my photos for this website, I stumbled across this picture with my nephew from a family Christmas in 2015 and I think it sums up my life perfectly: music and people. To me, music is as much about who I’m playing with as it is the art itself. I want to bring joy to the people I work with - casts, bands, audiences…even production meetings!
Professionally, I’ve trained at respected institutions (Boston University and Southern Methodist University). I trained and worked in classical music settings into my 30s. I love classical music and the technique, dedication, and attention to detail I can bring into all my work. However, I started to find myself more and more in musical theatre. And to my surprise (though probably no one else’s), I loved it! Somehow, all of the disjunct parts of my life (community theatre as a child, that random year in my 20s I worked in audio visual, growing up watching Golden Age musicals on VHS) came together in this art form in ways I couldn’t have planned or predicted.
I now proudly claim my musical theatre nerdiness (I even teach a course on musical theatre history), though keep in touch with my classical roots. I teach at University of Texas Arlington in the theatre department - music directing their productions, teaching courses, vocal coaching, and playing piano for “all the things.” I also play and music direct in the greater Dallas-Ft. Worth area and vocal coach.
